I decided to get a fluval fx5 for my 135 gallon tank. They appear to be running about $200.00 on ebay. Which seems way cheap compared to what my local pet stores are selling them for.

Just curious what kind of extra filter media I should or need to buy, and how I should set it up for max filtering effeciency.

Also any good or bad or mediocre reviews would be appreciated, Thanks!

The EHEIEM Pro 3 Looks to be about the same price on ebay though. Whats the catch? I thought it was supposed to be a little better than the fx5. So Which should I go with?

There's plenty of threads on here with reviews from the fx5. Great filter in my opinion, I got one off of ebay a while back. Depending on what the filter comes with, one of the boxes of fx5 media will fill a tray up, and it has 3 trays.

whats ur stock gonna be?

u got it for a good deal..

as for media:
fluval bio max is good.. or Eheim's substrat pro.

i love my FX 5...;)

cheapest ceramic or sintered glass biomedia is seachem pond matrix, 4 liters for $25, 20 liters for $80.

I put Fluval's pre-filter media in the top tray and Fluval's bio media in the middle and bottom tray's. If I was setting up my FX5 again I would use Fluval's bio media in all three tray's.
