Running a sump I was looking to add some extra mech to my system. I have a bare bottom 180 gallon that collects quite a pit of waste in a short time. The sump never really got all of it even with power heads pushing it around. So I purchased one of these "Ultimate" filters lol. Any way I set it up last night as directed. The intake is right down to the bottom of the tank. I see it flowing great through the outputs but this thing cant even suck in debris 2 inches away. There is literally poop sitting below the intake maybe an inch away and it cant even get sucked up. I have a lot of current in my tank now and I would have expected it to be clear of particles 24 hours later but its still pretty dirty. I would have thought this thing would work a lot better. all fittings are tight & no air is in the system. My intake line has no loops and is literally straight down to the canister. Is this just expected with these things? Or is there a better way to give it more suction. Is the giant intake creating the problem of weak suction? Any ideas on how to improve it or should I just send the damn thing back. :screwy:

UPS is picking it up tomorrow and back to goes lol. Looking into a different approach.

Yeah I see that now haha. Even the smallest particles float on by if its not forced inside the strainer. Im one who doesnt care if I have a pump in the tank plus its all bare anyway. I just want clear & good water quality. Once I get my credit for this thing Im gonna try out the [h=1]Laguna ClearFlo 3200 Kit and hope it can take in the waste better.[/h]

I have a Fx5 with a Sump and my tank is never really Crystal Clear like the tank on here but my fish are Healthy and Happy. Im assuming your using a filter sock on your sump, why dont you go with a finer micron? personally i dont like the foam filter, seems to let particles thru. I use filter floss on my aquasystem and it works great and CHEAP

I do use filter socks yes. The main issue Im having is the PVC overflow is 1 1/2'' so the total amount of poop my fish create never makes its way down the tube. If I use a power head its just messy all the time and if I dont it rests on the bottom. Im looking for something to suck it up off the bottom. I want a nice clean empty tank ha. Im picky but I wont quit until I get it right. Luckily amazon lets you return things if you dont like them so Im gonna give the laguna kit a shot.

Looky here! The only real way to get "poop" out of the tank is to blow it into intakes via submerged pumps like powerheads. If your filter's intake suction is strong enough to pull poop off the bottom, i'd hazard a guess its WAY to strong to keep fish in that tank. You follow? :)

I totally understand what your trying to say lol. The intake couldn't even handle my 6 inch cichlas poop. Apparently it's to heavy? Making it not what I want. I watched particles and poop come within a inch of the intake without going in. That's not good IMO. I'm looking for something more powerful. I have plenty of current In my tank also.
