Fluval FX6 Intake.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I totally understand what your trying to say lol. The intake couldn't even handle my 6 inch cichlas poop. Apparently it's to heavy? Making it not what I want. I watched particles and poop come within a inch of the intake without going in. That's not good IMO. I'm looking for something more powerful. I have plenty of current In my tank also.

I think you might be wanting to install a garbage disposal drain then. Lol. *i'm just kidding please don't do that.

I was thinking current too but when I reread your OP I saw where you say plenty of current. Water changes with a good siphon are the best I can offer - or self clumping gravel with a scoop ;)

Just a thought. What if you turned the filter inlet valve half open instead of fully open...
The bigger the pipe, the less suction. The smaller the pipe, the more suction. Right??
The pump suction is what it is, cant change that. Pump does over 900gph - and that's restricted if you close the valve but the suction of the pump stays the same rt?
So In theory, if you turned the inlet valve half closed, more force would be caused thru the hose. Causing more inlet suction..

I've always heard that you weren't supposed to limit the intake flow by closing down the valve as it would stress the pump. Regardless, closing down the intake valve doesn't sound like it would have the desired result.

Meh, I just want pristine water at all times. Is that such a crime :)

Of course not! I'm beginning to realize it takes a lot more time and effort to be a MFK'yer, lol! There doesn't seem to be an easy way around it. The only other thing I would try is some kind of bottom detritus feeding fish that can live with my pbass, if there is one!

Ehh it's to late now, the FX6 is being boxed up and picked up today to be returned. I'm just Iooking to expand all the time I guess. I'm gonna try the Laguna kit and hope that pump has what it takes to pull in that waste. Like I've said I have plenty of current in the tank. All the poop is in one area due to a 900gph power head. The 1 1/2 drain pipe isn't working anymore as the fish get bigger.

No, but we have to be realistic. Otherwise you need a bare bottom tank that slopes down on either side of the bottom, leading to a bottom feeding drain.

why not make a spray bar that runs your entire length of the tank ? I have a spray bar that like 62" in a 6ft tank and I have NO food or poop anywere in my tank and it barebottom ...
