Good info paulster. Thanks.

Does conductivity relate to Redox (ORP)?

Thx.

I don't think so, redox relates to oxygenation of the water whereas conductivity is the ability of the water to conduct an electrical charge. I always knew that salt affects conductivity but I never knew that nitrate and phosphate are also classed as salts so when those levels rise so does the conductivity reading. I don't think the two are directly related tho - you can have saltwater with very high conductivity but a high (=good) redox potential and vice versa, low conductivity water that's dirty and has a low redox potential. Not something I know much about though so don't quote me!

lol is this guy from hagen/fluval or what? plus i would never not change my water for 30 days wtf?

I do. 30-60 days for me :(

yes, pretty much anything that is present inside water besides hydrogen and oxygen will increase conductivity, so any dissolved organics, disolved inorganics (eg salt), suspended solids etc etc. will increase conductivity, so in this case, conductivity can be related to water quality in that sense.

the issue is that for $15 a test kit will do that for you :)

pure water alone has a conductivity of zero (in a perfect world)

however, this is hard to achieve in practice because there is usually always dissolved minerals present etc.

even with RO water if your membrane is not totally clean you can get ions that break through etc etc.
