Fluval G6 - looking for review

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think they are good for showing off because they look cool but thats about it...they seem to be underpowered and way overpriced, kind of "gimmicky". I would go for multiple fx5s if I were you..you can get like 3 or 4 used fx5s for the same price as a new g6 and you'd have WAAAAAAY better filtration

I've read multiple reviews. They're awesome. A little expensive of course, but awesome. They tell you when your params are out of whack... Temp, nitrates, Ph, etc... I am planning on adding one to my 180 along with an FX5.

That's kind of what I liked about them. It also has a history function that shows you the recent history of the tank, and alert you to parameter problems. Gimmicky? Maybe, Useful? Sure.

Useful? Hardly. The G6 is nothing but a cute shiny filter for people with more money than sense. The LCD provides nothing useful. It doesn't monitor nitrates. There's a reason accurate nitrate meters cost $200-300+. If this filter were able to monitor ph, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, etc, then it would be awesome. But then again the price would be $1500+ because these types of meters are NOT cheap. Like I said, each one will cost a couple hundred bucks.

Here's all it tells you, which nothign but a marketing gimmick:

HYDROTECH TECHNOLOGY: ADVANCED AQUARIUM MONITORING
Fluval G's Hydrotech Performance Monitor an intelligent system capable of monitoring vital functions such as flow rate, conductivity and water temperature, while displaying results in numerical and graph format as well as providing maintenance alerts on the interactive LCD screen.

Exactly! Go with a few FX 5's for less money and better filtering

ok, so I can appreciate all of the opinions here. Have any of you actually USED the filter? I can see that the chances of me spending 500 on a canister is pretty remote. I thought it was pretty interesting to see historical data (salinity, ph, temp) from a filter. I don't really care about flow through the filter.

I thought it did ph... :(
