So I'm thinking of getting the fluval, originally as a place to put a Betta that was pretty much ditched on me. (My swim/waterpolo team bought them as decorations for our banquet, and I couldn't let it leave with someone to stay in a bowl)... I may still go that route, or I may use another five gallon for it, and put something else in a fluval. Any thoughts on stocking? Either with the Betta or without? I enjoy oddball species. I'm not terribly experienced, but have plenty of fish people close at hand that can help, and have had aquariums before. I was thinking pea puffers? Without the Betta of course. Maybe some shrimp with the Betta?
Thanks guys.

I've never kept pea puffers but i know they're not common. With that in mind, they're probably not the easiest to keep alive lol.
I've never kept bettas with shrimp but I've kept them with other fish and even in a ten gallon, they're typically not fond of tank mates. Bettas are awesome though. They're great little fish.

I think, from some light reading on the subject, pea puffers' main issue is they like live food, and are tough to acclimate if that is not provided. My brother's female is doing fine with shrimp in a spec, but I'm not sure how this male will do. Hopefully they'll be innocuous enough not to be killed.

I've kept dwarf puffers, and Betta in the spec v, I'm sure there's pics from an old thread; both will do well, since the filtration is very generous in the size of media.

I'd vote to do a Betta, my current main one is in with cherry shrimp, and doesn't bother them; roughly same size as the spec

I'd vote pea puffer. Much more challenging, but also much more rewarding!

The ones around here always have em too. I've gotten them to eat NLS pellets, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine, etc. They really love live snails, worms, and shrimp though.
I've gotten none. The fact that they are bite sized and fin nippers drives me away from them.
