I suggest you put any type of shovelnose catfish, alligator gars, giant gouramis.
Giant gouramis yes, aligator gar no and shovelnouses have diferent water needs. Tinfonil, bala sharks and other big cyprinids will also do great with flys;)

Put in whatever you like, as long as the water params are the same and the fish are quick swimmers. Keep in mind that turtles mess up the water more quickly.

Please do not put any plecos with FRTs. They will literally destroy their shells by sucking them. I've had one FRT which had passed away because of plecos sucking on their shells.

My 2 cents;)

My frt has eaten 2 plecos, 100 fat head feeders. I can't keep any fish w/ my frt. He's eaten every tank mate so far... btw he's in a 180 gallon and about is about 10 inches long (shell length)

Thanks. I had thought that might be an issue but I'm glad to hear actual experience.

After a month, I have finally almost finished the new setup. I decided its good enough to post a couple photos.

First, my smaller Fly River Turtle, Carettochelys insculpta, tank. This is a 55 gallon tank and currently houses a fairly small FRT and 6 Goyder River Rainbowfish, Melanotaenia trifasciata. I am hoping to pick up a couple additional female rainbowfish for this tank as it is male heavy. You can see the turtle on the lower left just in front of the driftwood stump.

Next, my new tank for my larger FRT. This is a 150 gallon tank and currently houses a medium sized FRT and 5 Boeseman's River Rainbowfish, Melanotaenia boesemanii. I am hoping to pick up some male rainbowfish for this tank as it currently only has females. I'd like to add more plants to this tank but this FRT is pretty insistant on biting off any plant I put in the tank right at the base. The water in this photo is a little cloudy because I was messing with the substrate.

Hope you like them.

Nice stuff Chris. If you buy more rainbows, I doubt you'll have trouble if you later decided to remove some as they grow larger. The adults of most species are really stunning.

Just curious how to introduced the fish to your salted water?
