Big Blue
If I put food coloring in my tank will it kill the fish?

I'm not sure of the ingredients but it is edible.

I think just blue 5 or red 40.

Should I try it? I think i blue tint would look sweet. or a red tint for a piranha tank.

Tell me if you think I should try it.

Get an actinic light and you wont need to turn your water blue.

Not healthy, and will dye everything from algea on the glass to substrate and so on... see if you can find one person who tried this and it actually worked, than ask if it can be done. theres a reason nobody will do it

Its your tank but If you care about your animals, don't do it.

Nobody will do it bec they don't if it is safe. Someone had to of tried it before. I don't care about the decorations and my gravel is black.

I'm trying to see if anyone has tried it or heard of someone doing it.

I was thinking about putting a couple feeders in a small tank to test it.

I tried it. the water is dark blue and the fish are still going strong haha so far it hasn't stained the fish either.

I used regular food coloring. it looks real sweet. With the light on it you can still see the fish really well.

I put it like ten drops in a 5 gallon. and it was tinted after the first drop. Try it.

Your filtration will most likely remove the dye fairly quickly. Hopefully, your bb will survive the dyes that build up in the media. Also, carcinogenics aren't going to kill overnight...but long term exposure can create all sorts of havoc.

Yeah, food coloring is edible. But, it's also maintained and monitored by the FDA for a reason. Many people are extremely allergic to many of the coloring agents. And you would be surprised to find out where many of the ingredients actually come from. For example, tartrazine is produced from coal tar.

Not to mention that trying to get an accurate water test is now nearly impossible.

Good luck...

shame to waste feeders like that.

Wow. Just wow.

As much as I'm against this concept, you could use methylene blue. It's a blue dye that's used to treat a variety of illness. Turns your water BLUE. It will likely affect your bio filtration though.

And with that, you're probably going to want to get used to people not liking you around here.
