Food Coloring?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think the fish would dig it. Even if it isn't toxic. Find a cooler experiment / use a couple timers and a couple colored lights instead! I agree with the filtration getting rid of most of the color probably in a week. It could stain everything else. Sounds iffy good luck.

I don't have a big animal welfare problem with the dye experiment. Less wrong than tattoo mollies or heart parrots IMO.
I just don't like it for the same reason I don't like neon gravel and bubbling treasure chests.
Hell son, mebbe you should market your ideas to people who do like these things, could be the next big thing.

Try a teaspoon full of food coloring. It's not all that pleasant.

The OP might want to have a look at some of the adverse affects of some of the inactive ingredients in food colours

http://www.feingold.org/effects.html

Some pretty nasty stuff there not sure I would want to be putting that in my tank just for effect or or any other non essential reason.
Perhaps you might want to consider that it is not necessarily the short term effects that are going to damaging to the fish but some of the longer term ones that could become apparent furher down the line.
But hey as others have said its your tank.

so OP any pics of this cool blue tank?

I think that's a super D duper idea!!!!

I don't have a problem with trying new things, but personally I think it looks terrible... I've used methylene blue and hated the way it looked.... And just because fish aren't crashed at the bottom or floating doesn't mean you're not doing long term damage. Probably no more or less healthy than the tank the feeders were on at the shop, so I wouldn't bet it's safety on that.

And I agree, thread is pointless without pics....
