I think he said the right to bear arms...

Nice my son has that shirt. I think I may also do it for my halloween costume this year.

I am for the second amendment all jokes aside though, but will refrain from saying anything else as I've been warned about having these discussions on the forum.

Standard pistol range is 25 ft or 50 ft? Also I mean the human silhouette target not the standard round competition target.

Im just kidding, but I am really bad at shooting handguns.

The general practice range for pistols is 7 yards. I practice anywhere from 1ft to 50ft usually. I can get a fist size group at 21ft with rapid firing out of my Sig Pro wich is mediocre at best.

you missed the part where it said mexicans are enlisting US citizens to buy a few guns at a time for them, yes, US CITIZENS.
:)

would those US citizens be anti or pro gun control I wonder?
:)

I am not against guns, I am however against emotional and illogical arguments , either for or against them, and I am pro fact based arguments.
:)
but anyway, this thread is about the importance of the second amendment. Surely such a discussion starts with what that actually is, its history and its possible future?

i dont if it already has been stated. but the right to bear arms was put in the constitution, as a safeguard. allowing the us citizens to rebel against an autocratic president. (if we had one)

>>>>Research shows that surprisingly often gun deaths are self-inflicted.

In 2005, the most recent year for which statistics are available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicides accounted for 55% of the nation's nearly 31,000 firearm deaths.

In the same year, 40% of deaths were homicides, 3% were accidents and the remaining 2% were "legal killings", such as when police officers do the shooting in the course of duty.

Nor was there anything unique about that particular year. Gun-related have suicides outnumbered firearm homicides and accidents for 20 of the last 25 years, according to CDC statistics.<<<<

If there were this many US military casualties in a war ( say Iraq or Afghanistan) all of the voting population would be screaming for the US to get out. The big problem is that too many gun owners don;t use their guns for home protection but as a way to resolve differences.

People will kill themselves with or without guns. Proof is in Japan.

http://www.davekopel.com/2a/lawrev/japanese_gun_control.htm

The Japanese experience does not seem to support the hypothesis than fewer guns means fewer suicides. While the Japanese gun suicide rate is one-fiftieth of America's, the overall suicide rate is nearly twice as high as America's. Teenage suicide is 30 per cent more frequent in Japan than America.
