I buy crab meat from the local grocery.. its like $3 a bag and my aro and other fish like it...Last about a week. I also use hikari cichlid gold. The aro like the crab meat so much he will take it from my hand :P Hope this helps

crab sticks or crab meat? won't crab meat disintegrate very quick and foul up the water?

That crab meat is processed, basically the hotdog equivalent of the seafood world.

starting a feeder colony sounds like a good idea...although i don't know about having a colony of cockroaches... does anyone here currently have a colony of feeder fish? i heard convict cichlids are a good choice as they breed like crazy

Are you guys talking about an imitation crab meat?
Evilobster - what's the name of the seller on Amazon where you bought 2x 17 oz Hikari jumbo carnisticks for $60? That's a very good price since I use hikari jumbo carnisticks too.

Gar fanatic- I think the company's name is price pros but if you just search hikari jumbo carnisticks on amazon you'll find them.

Do arowanas eat frogs? I saw some frogs at the Asian market for cheap the other day...

Best cheap food for the arowana is beef heart very good for them and growth

Odd you suggest beef heart is verygood and then go and start a thread asking if beefheart is any good :screwy:

I only feed my big fish 3-4 times a week tops. If they're adult sized, there's no need for huge amounts of food every day. I use mostly market shrimp and massivore pellets once a week. I wouldn't bother with beef heart, especially with adult fish.

Aros will eat frogs but I'd be very careful with wild frogs as they are typically the first critter to soak up toxins through osmosis and diet.

i feed my aro comm 4 times a week.

i breed crickets & feeders and buy
everything else wholesale...

and i feed... crickets, smelts, tilapia,
shrimp, low-fat poultry hotdogs (only
for treats once a week or two...), a
variety of worms, silversides & live...
