for the ones still using gravel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Back to the topic, yes I agree, substrate can/is ingested on a regular basis.... look at the pebbles in my quarantine tank...... mind you it is a bare bottom tank! Every single bichir I have purchased that was kept in a gravel bottom has passed some sort of gravel/pebbles. I now have white, black, blue, red, brown, etc..gravel in my quarantine tank. Starting to look like a non bare bottom tank. :)

so what if there are anoxic zones? they are usually at the bottom of the sand where you're fish are not.

IT is Crazy that they do this, I just hope that My ornate Will recover and become a nice and fat one

I think it's normal or "natural" for them to do this. The trick is to get small very smooth gravel so it passes, or stick with bare bottom or sand.
