STAY AWAY FROM GENTLE GIANTS!!!! I cannot emphasize this more as they are blatant liars, scammers, and are on their way to getting sued from adopting out dangerous, sick dogs. Here is a website dedicated to shutting them down. So many adopters with very similar disaster stories like myself.
http://www.gentlegiantnews.com/index.php

I won't go through the whole God awful story, but here's the gist. They lied about his veterinary care. He had absolutely none, but they required that I reimburse them for a lot of specific care he never received. He peed blood 10 hours after I got home and they they blew it off. Then I insisted there was something seriously wrong and they blamed me. Then, after 2 weeks as he got healtier, he became shockingly, and unpredictably aggressive. I had found out that he lived in a kennel for 3 months with little interaction while he was at Gentle Giants. All the training and evaluating they had supposedly done was a total sham. Because of all these fraudulent charges, he cost $890 up front to supposedly fix all his health problems. (Yes, they are taking money off the top. You can see it in the giant discrepancies in their public tax returns.) Then I had to spend several hundred more even though they paid for a portion of it. I need to have a moderator take down that thread since I know a lot of people won't read it all the way through. I don't want to give these horrible people any advertising.

I had to return him due to the contract. I worked as a vet tech for 5 years, and I can tell you that this dog NEEDS to be put down (not something I take lightly at all nor would recommend in all normal cases). He suddenly turned on and tried to attack both my mother and my grandmother (both who have raised and trained all sorts of animals) without warning after 2 hours of great interaction. He goes from super friendly to attacking with no provocation that we or the behavioral specialist could find. After I told the vet everything, they agreed with me that this dog needs to be euthanized. However, when I informed the woman running Gentle Giants, she says she is going to 'fix' him in 4 months and readopt him out. She says that she'll tell the new owners of his history, but given that she lied to be about EVERYTHING I don't think she will. I have notified Norco Animal Shelter about these people, and reported the whole thing to them including his microchip number.

All I can do at this point is spread the word, and work to get these guys shut down...

Thats absolutely heartbreaking... I remember your thread when you picked him up, a real beauty. I hope they shut these negligent people down and fast. They're gonna be in some serious trouble if one of their dogs actually completes an attack...

That's so horrible that they would do that!! Some people are just really low....I hope they get shut down & I will be passing that link along.

Yep, it was an emotional train wreck of a disaster. It was terribly heartbreaking for us. We both cried. It didn't seem possible that it was even the same dog. I had spent day in and day out getting him healthy. I drove an hour to Norco 2 times a week to see the vet out there, cleaned and medicated his ear twice a day, fed special food 5-8 times a day, changed the bandages on both his back legs daily (40-50 mintues every day), and worked on behavior modification training constantly. Most of the time he was amazing, but then a switch would flip and, at 170 lbs, he turned into a terrifying, high risk killer.

A lot of people have noticed I haven't really been on MFK in the past while. For a bit there, I was doing intense training trying to help correct this, trying to save him. Then when he turned on my grandmother who was just sitting in a chair, I knew it was over. My grandmother grew up on a 10,000 acre ranch, and the biggest reason you wouldn't want your animal around her is that they might end up loving her more that they loved you. Animals just gravitate to her. I knew if he saw her as a threat, someone was going to end up getting severely injured. Then began the emotional battle of realizing it was my moral responsibility to put him to sleep. In the 4 weeks I had him, I had already grow very attached as I had put my heart, time, money, and dedication into helping this dog. Then the legal problems began, and I realized I had to take him back or we were going to get a lawsuit thrown against us by Gentle Giants. I decided to stay on the offensive side of the law to try to help in a bigger way that just this one dog and try to get them shut down.

this is one of the worst sad stories i have heard........ i cannot imagine the anquish and pain and money spent only to return him........... but thank goodness nothing happened to anyone... other then the emotional turmoil.

cant you call animal control to tell them they are going to adopt out an aggressive 170 lb dog to unknowing people?

maybe they can at least monitor the situation to see that any new owners dont get hurt?

it wouldnt hurt to consult an animal control officer or your county animal control to see...

i dont understand how you could possibly get sued for being a responsible pet owner:confused: very confused.
and i agree with the other comments, surely there is a higher authority for you to turn to about them rehoming blatantly dangerous dogs to unsuspecting people, who could possibly have young children i might add.

at least you tried with everything you have. its a shame that someone at some time has made this dog so unbalanced that it goes into random bouts of hyper aggression, i bet he could have been a real star had he been giving the nurturing from the start. I hope you get this resolved and are able to get action taken again gentle giants.

This rescue has been doing this for YEARS...they need to be shut down, yesterday. So sorry you went through this.

It's nothing Cesar Millan couldn't fix! Send him an email :D
