Found hydra in my polypterus tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh ok well killing the BB wouldn't matter for me because I have multiple tanks.

Hydra is easily killed off (including it's spawns) by removing all fish and bumping the water temp to 40c+ for 2/3 hours.
Then gravel vac the corpses and bring the temps back down and re-introduce fish.

Gourami will eat the hydra, but it could take a long time as the hydra shake of tiny "buds" that spawn into adult hydra over time.

Ok did about a 70% water change last night, manually killed the ones i saw, added some aquarium salt, and put 3 gouramis in. So far so good haven't seen any yet.

Why are you even worrying about them? Unless you have newly hatched fry, they are completely harmless. Cut down on your feeding and they will disappear on their own quite quickly.
Would rather not have them in there, then have them in not worry about it. If you know what i'm saying i just wanted to get rid of the problem while it's small

Did you know they can be immortal? They have no life span and don't seem to age at all. Hydra are fascinating and ancient critters, they will also eat other things in your water and keep it cleaner. I'm proud of mine. You sure you want them to die?
