Found worms in my sump tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your fish, your tank, your choice. I would because I keep shrimp and certain types of planaria do attack shrimp. If you are breeding fish, you also don't want them in there. In a monsterfish tank I would not bother. Not many fish would eat planaria, if any. They tend to spit them out but detritus worms on another hand are readily accepted..
I'm fine with agreeing to disagree.

You seem to be thinking I am arguing with you. I am simply trying to inform those that don't know, they are not completely harmless as often stated. Here is a visual what some can do. The video is not mine

again, I said they are only harmful to small fry, and inverts. they are harmless in probably 99.9% of systems, just like hydra as I said earlier. If you have parasitic planaria in your shrimp system that's completely different than the other species who scavenge on uneaten food, clearly the OP does not have that lol.

What exactly are you arguing with me about? You've in other words agreed with everything I said about planaria....besides whether they need to be completely eradicated or not from a tank...99.9% of my tanks are invert populated. I breed fish occasionally too...so for me planaria would be an unwanted pest...Fish don't eat them either.....I'd rather not have them and keep spreading planaria to multiple tanks..I have not seen planaria in any of my tanks in 6 years when I last ditched it. In a fish only tank it is fairly easy eradicating it providing one is careful what they introduce in the tank in the future.

That being said, I have no idea whether the OP has planaria or not, and I side on these being detritus worms because they are the most common ones we see in tanks.

from all the information I've read fish do indeed eat them...so I don't know where that came from either lol. I disagreed with your definition of carnivorous planaria initially and somehow that prompted your statement of "do your research". I didn't say they shouldn't be dealt with either, I stated you don't need chemicals to get rid of them lol. Yours would be a special case since the planaria you'd deal with feed off of inverts, and you couldn't get rid of their food source without getting rid of your stock. For the rest of us most of the planaria we'd see feed off of decaying food our stock hadn't eaten. I've had flatworms in tanks before that I've overfed, I've had detritus worms in tanks I've overfed lol.

I'll also reiterate you have a rebuttal for just about every thread you post in, so I'm not 100% sure why I got drawn into this rabbit hole, must have been an off day.

Looking at the picture more closely I'll agree those are probably detritus worms, I went off the size of the worm without looking closer at them, though most of the detritus worms I've seen tend to free swim rather than cling to the walls or floors.

That's a pretty good video how planaria actually looks like. The head shape and flat body can't be mistaken

I talk from experience. How certain are you that what you've got and you observed your fish ate was indeed planaria?

'll also reiterate you have a rebuttal for just about every thread you post in,

What does another thread has to do with this one? You're are the one who started the argument after I jumped in to say one can't be certain the worms on the OP's picture are planaria...As for other threads, I have probably had similar reason to post and say what I say...Some people take a solid argument as being argumentative...You've got the choice of not reading, ignoring or disagreeing with what I say.

sure do, you win. congrats.

Are you serious? What are you...12? I do not know you. I do not hold grudges against you and I never had any intention of making anyone feel bad.
Regardless of how you feel I have not argued for the sake of arguing and my intentions are genuine, whether right or wrong. You're the one that started with the abusive statements putting me in as bad light as you can without drawing too much attention to what seem to me mean intentions. There's no winner here, just bitter memories. I am sorry you feel that way...

I have no grudges, and am most certainly not 12 haha but I'm done with the thread at this point, the OP should have several different avenues to handle the situation. I've seen you beat a dead horse with others in other threads so I'm tipping my cap to you, agree to disagree. I don't feel bad in the least, I see you are a smart person, but you and I aren't clicking on the topic. I most certainly wasn't abusive, just matter-of-fact about my observations from different threads.
