Four Gatfs in same tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just got them yesterday and they all ate withen a hour of release. I have to pick up more feeders, had 2 dozen rosey reds and now down to only 4. i got a bigger 5" gatf will he be a problem for the smaller 4"gatf? They're just hanging out with each other, everything seem OK so far.

Do they fight like dorados. Might have to throw the dominant one with 12'' pacific tarpon:)

i have 2 in a 125gal with a third one growing out to go in with. i notice it switches daily with the aggressor. one day it is one, next day the other. i did notice an increase in the solitude and aggression between them when there were no more feeders in the tank. i may have to get some chilids in to distract them and breed some other feeders for them. i love how they hunt!

good luck with your 4!

Nice!! Only one out of 4 are bigger, so that shouldn't be big problem, as long as you always have rosie in the tank. I pick up 1000 rosies every week to keep mine occupied. I have 30-35 ATF, various size 4-6in, in a 60gal tank. Missing scales here and there, but no fin or tail nipped, unless when I ran out of rosies. These guys eat like Hydrolycus, small meal, around the clock, so if they don't have food, they'll get angry at each other :D BTW, you may want to put a powerhead with decent flow (500+gph) on one side of the tank and point straight to the opposite side. The current will help them to slam their face in the tank wall

These guys hunt in pack, there's no dominant. They'll single out the weakest one, and pick on it. You'll notice when you see a "black sheep" on one side of the tank, and the pack are on the other side. Beware that at the size of 4-5in, these guys could be feeders to the 12" Indo tarpon :)

Ok anh Nguyen, I'm afraid of the biggest one. When he open his mouth and yarn he can probably fit the smallest one head in it mouth no problem Didn't realized how big their mouth are at this size. So far all gatf grills are in perfect shape, no busted lips from running into the tank wall. It seem like they do better in a group but I'm thinking about moving the biggest one from the smaller one for their safety.
