My FH has started loosing colour and turning greenish after water change. Can anyone help?

I use black background and gravel with bright colored fish to make it stand out more. its never caused a fish to fade.

How much water did you change? Did you add Water conditioner? Did you match the temp as close as you can to the temperature the flowerhorn was already in? Also.... Post up some pics to give us a better idea.

Great read guys, thanks. I have a FH, about 10" and a real fatty. He's a few years old, not sure exactly. Currently living in a 90 gal tank with no background and no gravel no decor.

Was wondering if I spice things up with the tank if he will show changes in color even if he's an adult? He's mostly dark green with dark red at his "chin/cheek" area. (sorry dont have pic). I like the way he looks already, just curious if an adult will still show much color changes. See him

So about 6 hours of light- is bright light better? My options are a 20" 15w actinic that came with the tank or a double strip shop light (regular fluorescent bulbs) totaling 80w. The tank is a 38g.

Also, how is my background working for my FH? (You can probably tell from the pics, but he's on a blue background.) I've been told it's a fader, so what colors might I expect from it?

Druu, as far as light I don't think it matters, whichever looks better. Obviously too much will make him look washed out and not enough will make him look dark. Since it's a fader you could go black background if you wanted, might help give him some color who knows. And as far as colors it could stay real light or color up to something in the pinkish/orangish spectrum. It's all in the cards.

Parrots, Super Red Texas, Jin King, etc.. all types of faders. Basically any fish that fades into it's adult color.
