Free-swimming tiny white worms

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got these from plants like 2 years ago and the buggers still come back now and then...levimsole works but good luck finding any left!

Just don't worry about them... consider them part of the natural look you're going for... and tell your friends that, too. They'll think you're super-cool. I had planaria (they are a nematode) in my 125, and all I had in it was my RTC, at the time. He ate every piece of fish and every pellet that went into that tank. I have heard they come from overfeeding, too, but I can't believe it, now that I've had that happen. There's no way there's leftover food with a red-tail!

Yea, I'd the same thing goin on.. there's rarely any leftovers from my fh but during my recent wc, a lot of planaria stuck on the glass not to mention those unseen ones still swimming in the water.. lol

i agree with the water changes. do 20-30 percent a couple times a week and reduce the food at feeding time.
it may take a couple weeks to weed out the little buggers.

How this relates to "setup and filtration" more than "general aquaria" at all is beyond me, yet still, it was moved here.
Some of the mods here need a little checkup from the neck up :screwy:

i have these in my tank i have had them in other tanks over the years and never had a problem . they are ususaly unseen they hide in the filters and pipes and anywhere . the only time i see them is if i do a large water change ( strangly more so in summer - possibly due to additonal chemicles in the water supply ) and then they are all over the tank for a few hrs . they go back to wherever they came from as the filter turns the water over.

must be either temperature related or chemical related but either way its never been a problem for the fish . i imagine they live on fish waste more than uneaten food - more food . more waste - more lil tiny worms eating it - breaking it down futher . i dont think they are a bad thing .
