Are there any fellow freedivers/spearos on this forum ? If so let's talk spearfishing! Looking for good shorediving spots
Also sharing a little edit of my "winter" dive

Awesome post em! Where did you freedivers at?Yeah, I grew up doing a fair amount of spearfishing but havent been too into it the last couple years. I'll see if I can dig up pics
I have never heard of hunting starlings with a spear but it does sound hard ! Fast little guys! If you ever do a trip to Texas I heard they have a guide that will take you to hunt giant boat with a spear. I will have to disagree with spearfishing hurting local populations, in my opinion it's a lot more selective than actual fishing. You only shoot what you want. Vs fishing with hook and line you get bycatch and undersize fish potentionally hurting them. There's also the chance of getting snagged then leaving your hook and line in the water for a turtle to get tangled in. If everyone follows limits on the fish spearfishing does not take that big of a toll on the population. I will agree that it is extremely useful in thinning out roi in Hawaii and useful for lionfish here in Florida! It's hard to find lionfish on shallow reefs ever since fwc basically declared open season on them!I used to be able to free dive for 30 seconds at a time, but as I got older my aquatitus got worse,if I wanted to free dive today I would have to get a dry suit, I never got into spearfishing tho and as it has ruined or severely damaged many great fisheries especially around the Philippines,Malaysia, the gulf coast,Florida and Hawaii.
However it can be put to good use against invasive species such as peacock grouper and silver carp.
I have used a javelin to thin out several starling populations however(I highly recommend this as a challenging sport).
I would quite like to hunt wild boar with a boar spear, but they aren't common in my area at the moment.
Parrots are restricted here too, how did they taste?Grew up on Kaua'i. Here's a pic from a few years ago. This parrotfish is now a restricted species. This one one taken night diving
