Some can be kept in FW, some need brakish water.

Which ones have you kept in fresh and/or brak?

I have two Allenbatrachus grunniens in pure FW.
I got them over a year ago and they do fine. Ive heard normally they are brakish but mine were caugt in a river. I hope they breed for me one day.

Stick with them. If you are lucky enough to have a male and female, you might get the surprise I did one day

are you referring to Thelassophryne amazonica a.k.a. prehistoric monsterfish?

It's funny because the freshwater lionfish is neither freshwater nor a lionfish.

The most predominant species I have seen working in LFS's are brackish Stonefish.
They are strictly ambush predators, though sometimes you really have to coax them to "prey". Feeding can be annoying, they can take significant chunks out of many tankmates, and they are extremely inactive.
Would be cool for an individual solo brackish tank or maybe a really inactive species tank. Not much more beyond that. They do not sell well at all due to their parametric needs and listless demeanor. DO NOT pay too much for one if you purchase.
There is also great debate that I have heard as to which species are venemous and dangerous, if any. I am not an expert on this, but I have heard quite a few arguments about it.

ive got one of these guys he is a great fish never have problems with him going after my other fish. he is about 8" and done well in all types of water from fresh to near full salt. i trained it to eat market shrimp from my hand without much trouble. they are like having a pleco that doesnt move around much. if my thinking is correct i payed about 30 bucks for mine at about 1-2" goodluck and id be happy to help you with my experiences.
