Freshwater Algea Reef

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have found that, in my tanks so far, the brown diatom algae and the green spot algae are frowing well with the 6500K LED's.
The river tanks I have see a lot more string / filament trype algae growing with the 13000K LED's.

I had some green dot stuff in my log tank with lower 6500k flouresent tubes also. I have not tried very many 10,000k lights.

Time to replace the T5 high output lamps.
I will be trying out the full spectrum 120 volt white cob light.

These lasted for 2 years, on a air cooled aluminum heat sink. I used them on both tanks, and had Blue Green algea issues if left on too long, 50 watt 110 volt cobs, full spectrum. They grow potted plants nicely.

This fixture lost 2 leds, in June 2021, I replaced it with the same Led chip, but added some 110 volt 50 watt actinic, and 40 watts of "660nm 12 volt 10 watt diodes". I mounted them on a stainless steel tube, and circulate water, which cools the lights and heats the tank. At 340 watts, to about 230 gallons of water. It can overheat the aquarium if left on too long. It also has two older style 1 watt x 30 LEDs fixtures, Which are used when the algea growing lights are off.
