I have A LOT in my 90 gallon tank. I got them from the river behind my house. No problems what so ever. I just put them in till it looked good. I have close to 2 dozen small ones. The only advice i have is if you get a big one it will move your plants and other decor around when it moves.

I have a few of them but Ive never seen any of them move anywhere.

i kept them until reading that when they reproduce the larvae can stick to the your fish' gills which can be deadly. So I moved them to my feeder tank.

^ I've read about that as well, which does worry me a little... but might still just keep trying it until i actually see them reproduce, at which point i'll probably move them to another smaller tank...

Ive heard of that problem too and also that they dont have long lifespans. They can die while buried and cause an ammonia spike. Some guy had a journal on keeping them and detailed everything and said ti was more hassle than it was worth. So I never bought them because of these reasons.

Do you by any chance have a link to that journal you read, coz it would be interesting to know a bit more about them, since i can't seem to find much info on these critters...

^ thanks, appreciate the help...

I would watch the puffer, from my experience puffers like to eat snails and clams are not to far behind. If you have a sump for your tank try putting some in there that way there not on the menu.

I was going to get some but I heard its hard to tell when they are dead. and when they die, they fould up the water fast.
