I have to agree. An African tank for a few Discus. But I would get rid of your current stock. Take my advice, it is a head ache waiting to happen just mixing fish.

People have been telling him to take on discus....:jaw-dropp. The first problem is that discus won't stay under six inches if cared for properly...my adult discus are about 8"+ . They would definitely work with the stock, but to have happy/healthy discus it's quite a bit of work and quite a bit of money to get quality stock. If your going to go discus be prepared to spend some decent $$$. He may be able to do it but an updated list of what his current setup is required to determine if he needs more advise. Sorry if im coming off as a bit of an douche, but I'm just trying to give decent advice. The jump from swordtails and platies to discus is quite, well, large...
This guy is at 6.5" right now and is still growing!

^Good points.. I was assuming that the experience needed to keep Discus was not there.. but I could be wrong.. No disrespect OP, I was just going by your post..

i could list out my current stock, but it doesn't really matter because i am willing to get rid of my fish to make room for other more colorful fish. i like discus, but they just are not the type of fish for me, im not really into their body style and charachteristics although i do think they are beautiful fish, and i do hope to one day start a discus tank but just not now., also pidgeonblood i don't think your being a douche at all. i like the fact that your being straight forward and serious. i do have enough experience and knowledge to take on discus but i am not intrested in starting a discus aquarium at this point in time.
i also really like the look of the german red peacock cichlid, thank you for mentioning it, im going to check out my LFS and see if i can get a good look at an adult specimen and research further from there. at this point i have my eye on a few african cichlids and might turn my aquarium into an african cichlid tank, if not i might take a leap and go forward with a saltwater set up. and yeah i agree %100 on this one, mixing fish is the biggest and worst headache. you deal with sick and weak looking fish and no one benefits in the end.

I just didnt want you to think that I was insulting your knowledge about fish keeping! I like your choice to go for a cichlid tank;should turn out nice!!!!!!!

I do not think anything is more colorful than africans. Some of them will just blow your mind.

Agree, if color is your goal your best bet is probably African cichlids. Never seen a bright yellow or orange discus--not that discus aren't colorful, they just aren't colorful in the same way SW are.

I think you should just go saltwater honestly. It's not that much more work and everytime you look at your african tank you'll know that it's just a wanna-be SW tank for you (not for all African Cichlid keepers, just for someone keeping them because they resemble SW fish).
