good news. i just peaked under the cover for a bit and the eel's head's up. seems like he's doing a bit better, hopefully he'll get better and i'll have a chance to acclimate him to brakish/salt water. :)

When you go to put him in a brackish environment make sure that the other fish if any that will be with him are brackish. Make sure to get a hydrometer or refractometer to measure the salinity of the water and do a little research to see what level to start him off with. Also make sure to get marine salt not aquarium salt there not the same and he will need marine salt. If the eel is in the water make sure you mix the salt and water before adding it to the tank because adding salt directly to the tank when hes in there will burn him.

Also more then likely hes never been in saltwater before so you will have to accumulate him slowly to it. I suggest using the drip method here is a link to how to do that.

Gald to hear that he is doing better keep us updated!

good job on the recovery. but next time research your fish, it will save you many headaches and also heartaches

I'm glad he's doing better.

Also make sure you are using marine salt not aquarium salt to create a brackish environment.

I see that your in maryland, what part? The aquarium Depot in Randallstown has marine biologists on staff, if your near there they can be a tremendous help.
The so called freshwater moray is really a fully marine moray eel that can live in brackish, and sometimes fresh, conditions for a brief period of time. In captive ecosystems they will do best in full SW though. Do a search in the brackish forum, this topic has come up before, you can get some good info there.

Gymnothorax tile are brackish water fish, not saltwater. But still not fresh :(
Some people have kept them to adult size in freshwater. Unfortunately, most Tile Morays just pretty much die.

thanks alot for all the helpful info everyone. i went out to get some marine salt this morning and started using the drip method. he's still breathing heavily but he's looking better today and is moving around a bit more. looks like he's going to be alright, so thanks again for everything. :)
