freshwater noob with a 37g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well since its only 37 gallons i would use a biowheel.

i like the gymnogeophagues too-i have a group of "blue neon" but i didnt realize when i bought them that they should have a cooling down period in the winter-wish i wouldve known that before i got them lol

psh just get a small schoal of exodons. lol those things are pretty cool. :D lol but a couple pairs of rams and some tetras would make a nice tank.

yeah youre right there about the biowheel.. i have a few HOB aquaclears and love them. theyre quiet and easy to clean the media.

I say go with a community set-up I have a 20 gallon long with :

6 triple red apisto's
3 platys
2 zebra danios
1 fancy guppie
1 oto cat

The apisto's have great personality.

If the austaloheros don't work out, I'd like to recommend rainbows (herotilapia multispinosa). I have two in my 75 right now, they're loaded with personality and energy but are quite peaceful.

thanks for all the suggestions. Ive decided to go with 5 oblongums until they pair off, then remove the 3 extra and add maybe some kribs, and dither. for substrate i was thinking a Tan & Brown 3M Colorquartz mixture.
check it out and lmk what you guys think. going for a natural look.

Other than that i still need to select a canister. i chose canister because im lazy and would like to clean it out less often. i'm hoping to find one that will be easy to clean, and has the impellar on top (i heard bottom impellar can be bad with sandy substrate).

With about 1-2" of this substrate, and driftwood, and some low light plants, would i need to use extra biological filtration in the canister?

yeah australoheros might be hard to come by. Any archocentrus cichlids would be good in there. I have a 37g with the eclipse 3 system on it. I beat my head against the wall forever to figure out what to put in there. I finally decided on a pair of green flier cichlids (Archocentrus centrarchus), some livebearers, and a BN pleco. I couldn't be happier.

these pics are a little old. They've gotten bigger.
