It's already Friday in Europe . . .

It was still Thursday when I changed the springs in my truck. There it is! See the shiny black paint among the dirt?
"One of these things is not like the other ," . . . but they should be identical twins.

Anyhow it steers much better with equal height springs.
All Tacomas suffer from this left spring sag to some degree, so it has a name: "The Taco Lean".
I have a USA model of Taco (built by Toyota de Baja SA) It's the longest model too, so it also sags the most.
US models have the muffler on the right and the driver, fuel tank, and battery all on the left. Which causes the front left to sag up to 1/2". Foreign models usually have the driver on the right. This equalizes things.
This left front sag is terrific for drag racing BTW, It keeps the front level and straight under full acceleration.
But it sucks for daily driving. Scrubs tires, acts dodgy. As they age this happens to most all Toyotas.
Anyhow, with a new set of slightly stiffer springs from
Old Man Emu and a big chrome torque wrench, I really made a difference.
But it's a chore, and you need the tools. Plus, suspension work is heavy and dirty, and dangerous. That spring holds up 2000 lbs easily and you cannot let it get loose EVER. It's not a business for the weak or timid.
My wife hasn't a clue about this stuff, so she asks, "Why don't you just
pay somebody?"
"Because I'm not an
old woman."
OK, I didn't actually say that. She's
not an old woman to me.
So I tell her, "Because I'm not a
girl! "
Then I grunt in a manly way and show her my chrome torque wrench.
"
250 foot pounds baby! . . . Ugrungh!"
It doesn't work.
She'll never get it.
