If he's still eating, soak his food in prozipro and garlic. This will clean out his system. I also suggest doing 45 to 1 hour dips in 2 1/2 gallons of water, a full cap of bifuran, and 15 drops of quick cure.

What is the basis for these suggestions? There have been no new fish added to the tank for over 6 months, and they have not had live feeder fish in that same period of time as well. They have eaten nothing but pellets for the last 3-4 months, and so have had nothing that could have introduced parasites or disease into the system.

The freddie has now changed to where his base color is almost completely white, with just black accents/spotting on his body and tail. I will try to post some new pics tomorrow.

He is still active, still flares at the other fish when they bug him, and did aggressively go after some pellets I dropped in the tank last night. He still responds to me approaching the tank the same as he always has. I have no clue whats going on with this fish...

Could simply be a melanin die off. Lots of cichlids exhibit color morphs where the melanopores (black pigment producing cells) die off.

If he's eating and acting normal I'd leave well enough alone.

Here are pics I took on Saturday. He's actually lost even more pigment than in these pics. He's being more aggressive yesterday and today than he has been, and I fed a small amount of pellets yesterday. He went after them like he was starving to death.

Anyways, new pics:

Sorry the first two have some bad flash. Didn't show up that way until I loaded them here. The third one is without flash, and shows just how white he's actually turned...

So wait, are you saying that he's likely a xanthic freddie? Or is he just morphing into a lighter color that is similar to a xanthic fish?
