Any thought of illness should be gone from your mind by now. You've got a rare gem on your hands. He's gonna look great. Can you post a progression thread in the ca/sa media lounge?

I will try to do one for you. It might take a day or two, as I'll have to dig through a few thousand photo's to find some of him at different times. But sure, I'll try.

Well there are a lot of pigment conditions out there. Xanthic just means it has lost all pigment besides yellow. If he ends up bright yellow...he's xanthic.

He's not sick.. It's color morphing..

I know how to make this kind of fish.. Cross it with a Xanthic Amphilophous and you likely to get this affect..

After all the dark pigments are gone, the fish will get brighter.

Nice fish

Nice fish

OR it's a pure Parachromis that has the same genetic predisposition as several Amphilophus (and other pure cichlid) species...

There is no way you could make "this kind of fish" since your cross would be a hybrid while this fish is pure.

This was bought as a pure parachromis from a reputable vendor who's sold hundreds if not thousands of parachromis. I think I just got lucky to get one that ended up morphing into a new pigment type.

I'll have to go back and show my vendor the pictures and let him know he sold it to me. He might know if any others that he's sold have ended up like this one.

If he's pure Freddy, that's super.

Well hurry up and breed him so we can have more in the hobby!

All I know is that he's not sick, but healthy.

Thanks. I'd love to find a female for him (assuming he's actually male? Can anyone tell me from those pics?) so that I could breed him, but I can never find any the same size.

looks just like a male by the structure..

Nice fish you got their. He's just going threw a colour morph. I want him.
