I would go with a ray since you'll have to upgrade with the clown

Isn't ray hard to keep they are about £ 150 for 10inch here

o really? around here you can get pups for about $50. They can be hard to keep but they are great. You could do a ornate bichir or any type of bichir

bichirs. won't take much space compared to some active swimming fishes which might the ck consider as a threat or trespasser in it's territory.

Gars, Bichirs, large Characins, large peaceful Cichlids would make a good tank mates. Each fish has it's own personality, but CKs are usually pretty mellow. However, there are some aggressive ones out there.

Not all Cichlids are aggressive. I'm not a Cichlid person per-say, but I've heard that Chocolate Cichlids aren't aggressive. And even semi-aggressive may work. Oscars are always hit or miss with aggression.
