i take it you guys dont have kids? you CONNOT blame a child for the neglect of a parent, that is NOT a childs fault! :screwy:

I agree. If this child is 3-4-5 years old, then they aren't even old enough to differentiate between what's right and wrong. That's why you can't give kids that age options, you give them orders. ORDER them not to go near the tank. Say, "if you go near that tank again, no more gummy worms for you, ever again".

Then, if he doesn't listen, violence ensues. ahahah, jk

your forgetting there KIDS! not adults you cannot compare a child to a adult with common sence.

everyone has there own way of raiseing a chiild, but il be damned if im going to beat my sons azz for something that would be my fault wether he did it or not. go ahead beat your 5 yr olds ass if it makes you feel like a man go for it. if it helps you sleep at night the by all means. :screwy:

In all seriousness you can't beat up a 5 year old NOW.

If you want him to know he did something wrong, you have to spank him right after it happens so he'll know he did something wrong. A kid isn't gonna understand what he did wrong a few hours after he did something.

I see stuff like this all the time. I was brought up with fish keeping so know no different the same as my son. But when I go into my mates shop about kicking out time at the local school all hell breaks loose what is it with having to bash the front off the tank. Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.Sorry for your loss

There are strick rules in my house dont **** with my fish that goes for everybody! Tell your kids respect it or get out! My kids dont tap on the glass or mess with the fish or Spankings...yeah I said SPANKINGS will ensue!!

Sorry for your loss

The parents need to be watching the kids at all times... Its hard b/c especially when they are young its like they go looking for trouble... The parents should definitely pay you what the fish cost... No doubt about it..

But that being said.. we should all take extra precautions in making sure the tanks are high up and the lids closed properly to prevent this from happening. All my tanks are in my living room and I'm in an apartment so when people come over I am always there to make sure the kids stay away!

I had a tank in my daughters room but I took it out - just didnt trust the brat upstairs shes always causing **** here...

Why call the lady with the kids, your wife was home right? She should have seen that this did not happen, if I was to be mad with anybody it would be my wife for allowing such stupidity in my house.

Thankyou guys for your support, I agree that yes they are kids, my mrs and her friend were in the kitchen area having a coffee, and the little kids (about 7 and 9) were in the living room watching a DVD. They have been around before and have done this before so it’s not a first time they’ve been unattended in my living room. But for some reason they just chose to “feed” him yesterday… I am not into the blame game, my aquarium top is about 6ft off the ground.. from base of the cabinet to the top of the crown is about 6ft they used a chair to get up and open the lids. And since it’s only a crown top, it’s not that hard to get into. I don’t blame anyone, I am just ****** off that it happened.

For the people who ask, why is it a 3000 dollar fish… ask some people out in Australia, see if they have or know anyone with any types of SH… I think you will find that they are a highly sort after species no matter of the age, size or breed. I know a lot of aquarium shops who would have paid top dollar for him. It’s not hard to sell these in Australia.

So I was just going on what I sold my giant SH for 2 years ago. It’s just a rough guess into what people would have paid for this monster.

It isn’t easy to obtain these things here. They don’t pop up all that often due to the fines and possible jail time. (no joke)

Someone asked if he ate them, I think he may have eaten 2 or 3 but there was about 5 in the bottom of the tank.

Well thanks anyway guys, I really appreciate your sympathy votes =)

Take care all!
