sorry for your loss and what a loss!

to everyone who thinks a nine year old doesn't know better than to poison fish with candy, you guys are obviously not parents, or your kids have some kind of learning disability... my daughter is 8 and she knows what fish can and can't eat.. and so does my 7 year old nephew who doesn't have fish around.... come on man, my 2 year old is even smart enough to know that..... sorry to hear about your fish.. i get right rude with people who come in letting their kids touch everything, and then i make sure they don't feel comfortable to invite themselves back over, friends or not. if my kids ever killed an animal, fish, dog, hamster, whatever, i'd for sure spank their little butts for it. the mom should definitely b giving you the cash... more even cause the fish was so big... my lung is like one of my babies.. i'd lose it if anything happened to him

Man really sucks to hear that. I got an idea, since they lady owes you 3 g's and won't cough it up. She needs to give you one of her kids and you can train the kid to be a killer pitfighter like that Jet Li movie. I think it was called Dog. :P

To be serious for a second though, make the lady atleast by you another one. I'm not sure how much they cost over there though for a baby one.

i dont know about austrailian laws but in usa that would be grand vanelisim and is a felony grand meaning 3k or more in damages

Reading this thread is really sad. I would cry if I lost an expensive fish like that. I know from personal experience. Just the other day I accidently stepped on my roommates airpump for his fish tank. I immediately apologized and went out to buy the same brand/type of airpump. I was my fault I stepped on it. It was my responsibility to apologize and replace what I broke.

As for kids, I have the rule in place, "You can look, but if you touch, you die." :D My girls love the fish tanks. I'm teaching them how to take care of the fish, but they're only allowed to do that under my supervision.

So sorry for your loss:( I think thouse kids were already old egnof to diferenciete whats good and whats bad. So here we have 2 possibilitys: they acted out of ignorance or out of cruelty. They simply wanted to mess with your fish and thouse gum worms were the things more acesible. They trow one in, the fish eats it and then the "fun" started:screwy: They dint even cared if something happened to the fish, "after all is just a stupid fish, if it dies they will just buy another":irked:
