Could slap a durso on the bigger drain if he was adamant about no siphon. Two 1.5" are enough for two dct 6k on middle settings.

I would use a herbie overflow use one pipe with a strainer with full siphon and use the the other for emergency.

That was my initial thought but as others stated with out the overflow whats to stop the tank water from draining down to the level of the siphonand flooding the sump.

Was thinking he could just go for one dct1200 and adjust. He needs at the min a ball valve on the capped drain so he can install the new stand pipe with fish in the tank the existing stand pipe already has a ball valve

The way his using it right now just put a coupler and a strainer on the top. Thats whats going to set up your water level. You don't need the overflow. Of corse if you were thinking of putting the strainer on the botton of the tank thats going to drain the tank.

There are just the two bulkheads in the tank? You want to keep just the two right?
Yes being that the 1 1 inch drain is lnt gonna cut it...right?

Doesnt the siphon drain need to sit a few inches below the water level to achieve siphon and not suck air ?

If you put a gate valve on one and make it a full siphon by adjusting the valve to take almost all that the pump can put out have this pipe be completely submerged then turn the other into an emergency drain their will be just a trickle of water out the emergency drain that would be a very quite and efficient way of doing it. Herbie with only two drains.
Its going to be nearly impossible to match the pump perfectly that's why the small drip down the emergency drain line.

Big g that was my initial plan wouldnt the siphon have to sit a couple of inches below the surface to acheive the siphon ? Another member mentioned that when the pump was turned off the water level would drop to the level of the siphon drain and could possible overwhelm his pump...something i overlooked

What you can do is install an elbow at the top have the end of the elbow be as deep under the water as you would like and drill a couple of siphon break holes near the surface so it will break the siphon with out draining the tank.

Thx big g seen that one a few times but again he doesnt have an overflow box so unless im missing something when he turns his pump off the tank will drain to his siphon drain level
