ive got a 75 gallon freshwater tank with a sun sun canister filter and I would like to turn it into a saltwater fowlr setup for now, may turn it into a reef tank down the road but for now I don’t want to spend the money on a light. I know I’m going to need to get some live sand and live rock but what should I do about filteration? The sun sun probably wouldn’t be good for saltwater so should I just load the tank full of live rock or get a hang on back skimmer? I don’t want to add a sump because I don’t want to drill my tank and I don’t like the hang on over flows

I crash at the K-Pg
Skimmer is always a good thing. Most guys run sumps with spray bars also. I've been out of salt for over a decade, sorry I can't be more help.

You can keep the canister. Run an oversized skimmer. You will be fine. My current reef is run on a can. No issues
Just out of curiousity, what do you keep in you’re canister and also I’d like to see you’re tank, post a pic if you can!

Bottom two trays ceramic mech rings, mid tray eheim substrat with carbon and phosguard, 2nd last tray fine floss over substrat pro, top tray course sponge. Eheim 2075 filter.

I strongly suggest going with a sump. Its definitely not needed though and I have seen many successful reef tanks on canisters.
