Frontosa as a clean up crew

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Frontosas seem wierd in a Stingray tank to me.. African Rift with Amazon.. dunno why.. I would go with a Geo of some sort..

Thats just my opinion though, Frontosas probably work very well.. but I do think they would effect breeding habits.

If Frank and Nico are doing it must be ok, I will get a few females and try them in one of my ponds with the rays and give it a try. Tim i would go with the male but i think it would be smart not to add any female frontosa in there just in case. Mike

i kept a frontosa in my tank with my old rays never had one problem i am planning on doing it again

i hv one big male zaire blue in a aro comm working as cleaner and has developed very bluishish colour as well(the front learn to take frozen fish meat as well)now become a showcase in his own right.however not sure with ray though-info only:)

sounds safe to me, however i also wounder if there would be a effect on the rays breeding? i have seen some large fish in with rays and they still bred. that was motoro's though. hows the house coming ?

They won't hurt each other, but it would be strange. As I said before I like to keep things as normal as possible, so I recommend using a school of silver dollars or if your rays are bigger pacus. They even eat ray crap!

Slowly....unfortunately. Looks like 7 or so more months

I will comment on why some think it is so strange to mix fronts with stingrays.

We keep fish in a box... that is strange. I would love to say I have the urge to replicate something in my home, but lets face it, my blue fiberglass pond, or the box that they will be going into is a far cry from home!:) Rays are cool, fronts are cool

Fronts are something I have always wanted but do not want to dedicate a tank to them. To have one with my rays and to serve a purpose is whats cool to me.

when i mentioned breeding i ment i dont know how aggressive the fontosa would be to the rays if the fontosa were breeding

I kept a lot of feeder guppies with my rays as a self sustaining population. They keep the water very clean, eating the tiny scraps, they also will perform cleaning services on the rays, as well as providing little snacks for the rays between meals
:)

I did this too.. but when I noticed a guppy 'grazing' on the eyeball of a Motoro.. I took them out.
