Frontosa as a clean up crew

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi,

In a huge tank like Frank and Nico have it is nor problem to keep Frontosa as clean up crew.

But in rudy´s tank I wouldn´t because they can get beasty if they want.
Some mouth-breeding tilapias like Oreochromis mossambicus are much more better.

i have kept a large frontosa male with my rays for a few years he is very mellow eats the scraps and looks *****en
not had any problems with the fron effecting breeding

Well I added a 12 inch male Mpimbwe. I decided against the Zaire male as the Mpimbwe was the one in the 33 gallon and I felt bad for him. Also the owner was very experienced with Frontosa and felt that the Zaire personality was not as interactive as the Mpimbwe and the Mpimbwe ate anything offered.

Very cool fish and seems to work well with rays. It is amazing how my rays dwarf a 12 inch in this pond however.

As far as they rays are concerned, they could care less about the Frontosa being there. It is almost like they dont even see him and vice versa. I will keep a close watch but I think this will work out.

I will get pics when I can but very cool fish and I am very happy with the addition

i have a group of mpimbwe's in my pond with no problems..males are 12" plus and stay clear of my rays.
