frontosa breeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The key is, clean water, healthy fish that feel comfortable in the tank, water flow can't be too high, the males milt will just wash away before the female can bring her eggs through. Clay pots can help or caves of some sort, but they can breed , females at 5 inches can lay eggs. just need a male that will breed too.

Water is way too warm!
thats way to warm ???? i was told keep it warm and do the water change which would make the water cool and it would snap them into breeding mode :)

Frontosa take a long time to reach maturity, 3 years with proper husbandry. They need a large tank (125 at the least) with caves and a protein rich diet. Frontosa are harem breeders so you want a lot of females and only a few males. If your fish are big, healthy and old enough to breed but they aren't interested, remove your alpha male and let the beta male have his shot at the ladies. 87 degrees is way too hot, at that temp O2 will leave the water and you'll have over heated fish gasping for air. Keep your water hard, clean, and at 79 degrees.

The real key to breeding fronts is having a male that's interested.
