What kind of front are you looking to get.......Burundis, and a few other varients have a more hump like feature to the males head, but you can really only sex when they are 5" or so.....then you cant check for teh vent tube.....

Good info. Been researching them the past month. I bought 13 mpimbwe last week. They are in a 40 gal 3 foot tank. They are about an inch or better in size. I hope in the next month to setup a 75 I have for them. I figure I have a couple years before I get a 125 or bigger for them. I'll be weeding out males and get a stud male from a different line in 3 -5 years. I might get the 6' tank sooner if a good deal comes by. Glasscages doesn't have Milwaukee on their delivery route anymore, GRRR!! If I buy within 150 mi radius, I'm looking at a 125, 180, or 210.

I also have a 55 empty. I could split them between the 75 and 55 in the next month. Hmmnn, decisions........

fishingaddict:

Male fronts will have a larger head, more flowing fins and will be bigger than most females. The alpha male will almost always be the biggest fish in a tank full of frontosas. He will also probably be the most aggressive fish in the tank. Females are smaller than males and have less pronounced foreheads. The only sure way to tell the sex of a frontosa is to vent them. It takes a trained eye but can be learned over the internet. For more info on sexing and venting frontosas check this link out: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/frontosa_sexing.php
