i fed my fish some salmon caviar around christmas and they went berserk. seemed to really enjoy it. if i had the money for it I'd consider it for a weekly treat. i dont get enough of it myself though lol.

Didn't know that. I know some guys in my club feed it to theirs so that's why I started with my Jag. I think it was my fault though and I got greedy tryin to get him big quick and feed too much of it. Broke my heart to lose him. Got him from a friend when he was 3" and he was a solid tank of a 10" when I lost him.

I also feed my haps and frontosa the frozen carnivore cubes made by Omega One. They love that stuff. I mix that with the frozen krill on treat day.

Store bought peeled raw shrimp. I would cut it up and feed it to him.

The shrimp could have been contaminated, and would not have affected people since they are cooked prior to being eaten.

Another problem is some shrimp can contain thiaminase, which prevents vitamin B1 uptake.

I would say that pellets are more nutritionally dense, gram for gram. So you would have to feed more live food, and gut loaded them properly.

I find most live foods to be too much of a hassle and more trouble than it is worth,probably the only live that I don't mind using is earthworms and the like.


Absolutely,you can't go wrong with a varied diet to cover as many nutritional bases as possible.

Ok cool, I guess Ill just keep doing what Ive been doing. Im feeding most of the foods stated earlier minus the peas and their staple is NLS there a+ and a mix of pellets from Ed at almost natural fish foods

Decided to throw in a bucket of the NLS large fish formula and the Northfin cichlid formula. Heard about some of the Hikari products but I'm too scared to feed it based on my studying on this forum lol

What did you hear about Hikari that scared you away from it? I use a lot of Hikari foods and now I'm curious. Please share
