have u seen the scratches in that tank? What wre the dimensions and how many Flyrivers did he place in that tank? :O
The tank was a big 2000 liters or so fiber glass or acrilic (cant remenbar wich:confused:) stock tank. This teach is really lucky because she works in aquaculture and she´s able to get this tanks really cheap. There was only one turt in the tank, the big female she had. I remenbar seeing here and there a few scraches on the green alge that covered most of the tank. Hard to see and it doesant mater anyway the tank was old and we only had a good view at the top. The girl was quite sweet and inquisitive:D

If i was to separate them now and place one turtle in a 75g with a trio of ruby reds...will the ruby reds still spawn n breed with the turtle in there?
The turt may simply eat them:drool::D

u say their claw can scratch??? meaning their claws are stroung enough to rip through our skin? how do u know if FRT claw's leave scratch marks on glass tanks? Have you owned these before?

If it is glass there is no way their claws will scratch it. Glass is about a 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, fingernail is about 2.5. My common snapping turtle has huge claws and he is always pawing at the sides of his ACRYLIC tank without scratching it signifigantly. He has scratched the tank by moving pieces of slate however, so you do need to be careful of aquascaping issues.

My snapper has never scratched me badly enough to draw blood, but his claws are relatively blunt.

so ur turtle has scratched your tank by pawing on the side of your acrylic tank??? is it visible? Acrylic is more scratchable so i guess its differnt...but r u sure their claw is not strong enough to scratch glass? what bout map turtles or ur snapping turtle wouldnt their huge claws scratch glass

The scratches are barely visible, but yes, it does seem he might be scratching it a bit with his claws.

Glass is a whole different story. I kept him in a 90 gallon glass tank for years. He had dug away most of the silicone with his claws (amazing it still held water) but the glass was untouched. It is a matter of hardness - You could try all day, but you will never scratch a diamond with a piece of quartz. Likewise you can never scratch glass with a claw. Sand-bottomed tanks introduce the grit-factor, if they scrape sand or gravel against the tank with their claws or body they could conceivably scratch a glass tank.

very true, but i was just curious as to how strong their claws are....it is pretty sharp looking and ur 90g glass was untouched??? Flawless??? Not even the tiniest scratch? are their claws stronger then plastic??
