As for your first question, the claws depends on the turt. Black musk have very stong but not sharp claws. My chinese softy has claws that would be more or less the same that yours. Ive been thinking about this and I think you should be ok regarding the claws thing at least for now. The normal swming action of frt doesant put a lot of abrasion on the substrate. They glide more than walk. I think you are safe. You can continue to use them but also ad: turtle or fish pellets based upon vegetable mater,tetra reptomin,mazuri turt food, water letuce, water cress, mustard greens, turnip greens, duck weed, chicory greens, mango, papaya, fics, sea food like shrimp, clams ,silversides,minows,etc. Dont use feeder fish.
