I think you made a good choice.

Now you can get lazy with the convict fry if you want to.

I've never had a problem with the convict fry and I assume it's due to the parental care and apparently slower development of convicts then the mouth brooders fry.

Convict fry only last 5-6 days after becoming free swimmers, while the mouth brooders release more resourceful and self-sufficient fry (bigger, faster, harder to catch).

I actually picked up the convicts to serve their current purpose (monthly protein snack) and "saved" 5-6 fry to increase the number of convict pairs in my tanks.

Oscars are two slow, get some Crenicichla, preferably some dwarfs, although many of the Saxatilis pike species will do perfectly. The Lugubris pikes get too large and might eat your other fish as well...haha
oh, you think crenecichla are the answer to everything

Well they are highly predatory, attractive, and stay smaller than pbass. Plus their torpedo shape makes them more effective at dashin in and snatchin out the fry with out gettin nailed. A group of Saxatilis pikes will be hell for any parent cichlids...haha....

Here are the "solutions" to my fry problem.

The "fry" being eaten by the Snook was 2inchs+, while the Crenicichla takes down smaller ones (or two or three etc).

Anyone seen breeding colors of red bay snooks? Just wondering why this one has decided to have more prominent stripes
