What a jerk spewing his eye goo at you, bet you weren't so sorry for him after that.

yeah after the 2nd eye shot the slimy, smelly, eye glop at me, I realized that it was time for decapatation

So did it seem to be a solid tissue behind the eye or fluid buildup? I have been considering a procedure on one of mine. It has extreme DE though as it looks to have bags of fluid above the eye. I am thinking of trying to drain these with a syringe, I need to pm jcardonia as I believe he did this with one he had.

let me know how that works out if you try it...my larger silver that bailed out of the tub when i was moving it and had a nice 2' +- fall onto a hard wood floor, has wicked de in one of its eyes and i can kinda see something like what you are discribing...almost like when you have to have a joint drained after an injury...might be simmilar with the head trama de...also it might get hard after some time of being in there like it can with human injurys, witch would explaine the "soild" stuff they cut out in the operations i have seen...

Yeah I am concerned that it will rip open one or both of the bags. Just need to do some research on what to use to sedate the beast.

Ask King-el he sedated his aro with clove oil to perform gill massage.

the best way to describe it would be, the eye itself was like a thin bag filled with jelly, but the big problem was, that bag seemed like it had been dipped in glue and wrapped in paper, so gently tilting the eye out and down was very difficult, when I was able to get it out some, it was the glue(tendons or whatever) pulling off the eye, and popping- but when I did get back there, it did have fatty deposits, which were easily pulled off-
I wish I had known that something like that was attempted with a syringe, but I cant really see the fatty globules getting sucked into such a fine needle because it was fairly stringy as well, but Id like to hear about it-

it wasnt like draining a joint in my experience, it was much more substantial than the liquids drained from joints

yes clove oil is what Ive heard but the amount is all important because the same stuff can be used to euthanize

ideally yes- but I can only kill so many of my pets a year, before the authorities come to my door

since the operation I talked to a friend of mine whose opinion I respect, and he informed me that the best way to do this is to physically push the eye back in, and the fat pushes its way between the eye and the top of the socket- from there you cut the fat away, never removing any of the eye from its socket

Call me next time, Jim! ;)

It's more like solid/skin tissue.

This is what i did with my fish to preserve their bones.

Put them in a bucket and pour in boiled water to cook the flesh. After 10-15 minutes the flesh should be cooked and should be easy to peel off the bone. Try to clean it off as good as possible. After peeling the flesh off the fish, let the bugs eat the little bits you missed. If the bones are starting to break apart you can use clear super glue to attach them back into place.

Here is a link of what i did to my rapheal catfish. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=304103&highlight=rapheal+catfish+skull
