I've a Flowerhorn who over night sprouted 5 little white cotton like substances from around his left eye and down his forehead. I talked with my aquarium store and he recommended a 7 day treatment of API's PIMAFIX. for fungal infections. I'm on the 8 th day now and there are no signs of it getting any better. I'd love to post pictures to find out exactly what everyone thinks and see if there's a better treatment. But I'm not sure how too.

Once you have 5 posts you will be able to post a picture. Go to the bottom right of the reply pane where it says "Go Advanced" click on that and scroll down to "Manage Attachments" and click on that. From there see "Add Files" then down load the picture from your computer/phone and then you can attach it from there. HTH.

I would do a 50% water change and dose with Aquarium salt at a rate of 1tbls pre 5 gallons of water. A clear picture would be helpful if you could post it. There are several good meds for Fungal infections on the market I would like to see what we're dealing with before I recomend anything. Just do the salt and the water for now until we get more info. If you could post some info about your water parameters and maintance schedule it would be helpful too. The more info the better.

I'll do that this evening. The water parameters I mean. As for Maint. The tank gets a 20-30% water change weekly. I'm running an 80 gallon tank with a back up filtration unit at the moment. Filstar 2. I've also noticed that he is constantly defecating a clearish/ white. I've never come across this before. Normally it's orange and brownish. I'm hoping he didn't catch anything from the frozen bloodworms I usually feed him.

Also he is a father to a lot of fry that hatched last night And my aquarium guy said a water change now could kill the fry. How true is that. He breed with my female Umbee.

A water change wouln't kill the fry. The white feces could be a sign of IPs. Do you have a hospital tank to treat him in?

Ok so here's what you can do. Go to your LFS and get API General Cure. Dose per instrusctions treating the whole tank 8 packets. The fry should survive this. The salt will fight the fungas and the GC will combat the IPs. Don't feed during the treatment. After the course of treatment is complete switch the fish over to eating pellets if you haven't already and avoid any suplementation for about a month or so.

Thank you very much. I will start the treatment tonight. I will still be posting info this evening regarding the tank. As well as posting pics once able to.

I'll check back later.

I have personally found prazi pro to be a much better treatment for internal parasites. It is a little more expensive but it has far better results and you are not as likely to have to repeat treatment. I would also treat the fungus a bit more aggressively than use of salt when there are fry in the tank. I would choose Melafix for the fungus. As long as the fish are still eating well I would do a water change and treat the fungus first. Then treat the parasites. I have however used prazi pro and melfix simultaneously in the past.

Prazi pro is ok I use it to deworm new fish in QT tanks. It is a milder soultion, GC is a combination of Prazo and Metro. IMO Melafix and Pimafix are good for making the aquarium smell nice otherwise a waste of money the use of clean water and salt is far more effective.
