A new 265 runs about $1600 (tank only) by the $1 per gallon rule. The second I put water in it at all it is down to $265? That some how sounds reasonable to you? Even top line sports cars don't depreciate that fast. This all sound like I want a big tank but can't afford it so I get angry because you won't sell me your big tank cheap. Can't afford it don't buy it. Also if any of the $1/gallon poster want to sell me a used 700 gallon Tencor for 700 bucks I'm waiting.

There are deals out there if you're patient. If it's a rush job to replace a leaking tank, you're more than likely out of luck in finding the big discounts. In the same month, I found a half-column 300 blue-back acrylic, with stand, bead filter, and the rest of the works, for $1000 and a full circlular 200 acrylic, stand, filter, chiller, etc for $150. 2 of my 150s cost me a buck a gal. My 360 acrylic cost $250. I just keep my eyes out all the time for deals and grab them when they come along.
Just before the holidays, I advertise in the local penny-saver and little nickel that I'm looking to buy used aquariums for $1/gal to $3/gal. Minimum 20 gal. No cracks. People fall all over themselves to empty storages and get some $ for the holidays.
I donate dozens of full small setups to schools and write the donations off. Large setups just get added to the hatchery.
