I was at the lfs today getting some equipment, and I bought some feeder fish also. The guy asked what I was feeding and I told him my catfish. He then proceded to tell me that he had fed his catfish earlier in the day. So I asked what kind it was. He said it was a TSN, and that he fed it 10, 10in gold fish. I was in shock. So I asked how big the TSN was. He said about 39in. I was in shock again so I asked how long he had it. He said 2 years. Again my jaw hit the floor. So I asked the size of his tank expecting a whopper. He said 80 gal. I felt bad for the fish, so I offered to buy it for my new pond I am opening. He said he couldn't part with it that it was his friend. I understand that, but 80 gal for a 39 in TSN. So, I asked when he was gonna upgrade. He said never. So I asked if he knew how big it would get. He thinks it will stay that size for the rest of it's life. I told him they catch them up to 5 1/2 ft. in the wild, and he said they don't get as big in captivity. So losing my argument I left the lfs trying to imagine that poor TSN in that tiny 80g., and how nice it would look in my pond. LOL.
