well I switched the two hoses and I didn't see any water dripping from the intake hose anywhere when it was hooked up to the output connection....I'm not sure what that means.
I ordered new hoses I don't know when I'll get them.If the new hoses don't fix it then I totally and completely give up.I will probably just wait till it burns itself out and hope that doesn't happen before I have the money to spare for a new one.
As for why I don't take it back to my LFS or send it in to Fluval the reasons are numerous.....
-First of all I purchased it about 2 months ago, I know I had said 1 month but thinking back on it it was the very beginning of June....
If you guys have LFS that will take a product (even an FX5 or similarly pricey equipment) about 2 months after purchase then I envy you...no I haven't asked but I'm almost positive mine won't.
-second I didn't buy it straight off the shelves I got it in a "starter kit" sort of a deal that my LFS owner threw together for me where everything was at a low price because I was purchasing it all together (tank,stand,filtration,heaters,lights...) and so in the end the FX5 was like $200 and he didn't charge me tax.Him giving me a "hook up" on it,if you will, gives me all the more reason to believe he wouldn't consider a return on it....
-third is the fact that he warned me against buying it and didn't really want to order it for me in the first place, saying that nearly every customer he has ordered one for so far has had nothing but complaints.I argued with him telling him that of the 20,000 some odd members at MFK not many have bad things to say about the FX5's performance.
-fourth we have the fact that the leak may be something I caused myself messing with the filter and now simply can't find the cause.Probably the case because it was working fine before the first time I took it completely apart and adjusted the hose lengths.
-Also as far as sending it in to Fluval themselves reason four applies but also I don't have any sort of proof of purchase.
-Last of all one of the biggest reasons I don't consider taking it back (besides that I can't w/out P.O.P) is because I need it.I don't have a very heavy bioload right now as my fish are all very young so I have all three trays with just a bit of polyfiber for mechanical filtration and the foam inserts are my primary source of biological filtration.I recently added a sump but it's not been on the tank for nearly enough time to have an established BB colony.I looked into that route and from what I gather when you send it back they want it all, everything that came in the box with it,foam inserts included.
those are my primary reasons for wanting to fix it so bad as opposed to returning it or sending it in.
Thank you everybody for taking the time out to try and assist me in finding the problem with my FX5,but I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, that we can all agree that if I change the hoses and it still doesn't stop than this one has MFK stumped and I'm S.O.L.
