I've had my FX5 working on my tank for maybe a month now and has been working great...I did a water change yesterday and cleaned the filter and now the thing wont work... I hear the motor working but there is no water pumping.. For some reason there is no suction at all out of the filter...I did as the directions said and nothing worked... I even pulled the motor off and checked the impeller and everything looked fine.... Even broke down the whole system and took the hoses out of the tank to start the FX5 like it was brand new and it still won't start.... I'm gonna call Hagen here in a bit when they open but was hoping one of the MFK'ers could give me a hand....

arg...i cant help ya bro...but i just started payin 1 off at my LFS, i really dun wanna hear this.. lol...is this a common problem??

Nope i went through all the start up procedures like 5 times and even tore the whole system down, and re-installed it like it was new and still nothing... MIght be impeller issues but not sure.... I can hear it going and bubbling inside the motor housing..

Yea i went through all the steps and checked the in and out and made sure both valves were turned on..

Does it have a priming unit like the Fluval 400 series?

I have that problem getting my 402 started. That's a filter that costs close to $200 retail. I would be really pissed if I paid as much as the FX5 for that filter. Give Hagen's tech support a call. I have dealt with them before. They are friendly and help full. They should be able to resolve your issue.

have your took apart the pump and tried it dipped in water, i had a pump failure and did this after the pump sounded like it was pumping but was only pumping a little and had no power to lift the water.
it was also stuck in the first cycle where it pumps on/off before stopping the purge air and it sounds like yours may be the same.

read this here to see if the same

Hey Dixon so did you actually take the whole motor assembly and stick it underwater or what???? I did take the motor off and clean the impeller and then plugged it in and the impeller was spinning but that was as far as i went on the motor and impeller...

yes i unscrewed the motor from the side and submerged the lot and ran it and you could here it pump but it was pulsating and had not power.
i compared it to one of my other pump and you could hear the difference.
