FX5 OWNERS HELP !!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had the same problem with my FX5 when I took it apart and cleaned it the first time too. Making noise when I hooked the hoses back up, and no water flow. I put it in my fish room sink, filled it with water with the top off, and plugged it in. I realized pretty quickly which tube was the output! (water shooting in my face) I don't know what the problem was, put I know that sometimes with my Eheims it's almost as if there's an air pocket around the impeller that's not allowing it to spin properly - and the 'problem' with the FX5 is that it's on the verge of being too heavy to pick up while it's full and hooked up and give it a shake.

Other than that, I haven't had an issue with this filter. This was my first time cleaning it in the 11 months I've had it set up.

I'm gonna call Hagen customer service here shortly but i'll try that when i get home... I didn't want to submerge it because i wasn't sure what would happen to it... When i have the motor running with water in the canister it just sounds like bubbling water inside the motor... Does that sound familiar to you at all with your problems you had with yours ????

GREAT !!!!!! I just got off the phone with Hagen and they want me to ship my Motor and Impeller back to them.... Now i have to run my tank underfiltered for a couple of weeks unless i can find another filter !!!! CRAP !!!!

I just wnted to say that I was very impressed to see such service Johnptc.I have duel filters on most tanks and keep spare canisters that I can swap the media over to while I get the faulty unit repaired. This is because I have yet to see this quality of service in my area.Just wanted to say it's good to see that it does happen.Impressive.:headbang2

Does it have a priming unit like the Fluval 400 series?

I have that problem getting my 402 started. That's a filter that costs close to $200 retail. I would be really pissed if I paid as much as the FX5 for that filter. Give Hagen's tech support a call. I have dealt with them before. They are friendly and help full. They should be able to resolve your issue.

The FX5 does not need to be primed, the pump is on the bottom of the canister. I am not sure what is wrong, but I am sure Hagen will help. Maybe try running through the setup one last time. I am curious to hear the results as i just set one up myself.
