Have you tried running it with out that prefilter on the intake?

Taking off the prefilter fixed the low flow problem. That's so odd, why would it work fine with the sponge prefilter for so long, then all the sudden stop working with it?

I still have the microbubbles and the filter's still making noise like it has air trapped in it.

Thank you so much for your sarcastic comment, that is really what I need right now.

Dude relax, it was helpful sarcasm. The purpose of the sub forums is because these topics come up a LOT and the search window on the top right of your screen is a big help in common problems with a popular piece of equipment. Like I said, this is at least the tenth thread I have seen in my limited time on MFK specifically about air bubble problems with FX5. I searched for you and I genuinely hope you find a solution and give feedback on your ultimate result with the FX5 because I have considered getting one.

There are lots more threads and info if you would like me to post links to those threads too.

Good luck!

The design of the filter seems to create micro bubbles when it is clogged. Prefilters can get dirty very rapidly, so this was clogging your filter. Unplug your filter for a couple minutes and let it "burp" itself. Once restarted it will shut itself down for a couple minutes to again "burp", so don't be alarmed. This should fix the micro bubble issue.

Heh, sorry to snap at you, I've been having a lot of things go wrong the past couple days, I'm a bit on edge.
I have already done numerous searches on the microbubble problem - not specifically on this forum, but on google. I'll take a look on here, though, and see if I can find anything I haven't tried yet.

No worries! I know what frustration feels like. :) I have a theory on these FX5's just based on user reports. I think the motor might be TOO strong for a lot of situations. That motor is going to create a lot of vacuum which in most cases is good but if there is too much resistance it will pull air SOMEWHERE and it's trickier to locate vacuum line leaks because when you try to find them with positive pressure you usually cant find them. Most o-rings and pressure seals are based on pressure to "squash" a silicone or rubber seal/gasket to establish the seal. More pressure = better seal. This isn't the case with vacuum hoses.

Also even if they are invisible, well aerated water contains.. duh.. a lot of air. I work in the medical device industry and you can take fluid into a syringe and there is no air. Close the end of the syringe and draw it back to create vacuum and viola! there is magically air in the syringe! or actually the air was just there and either came out of solution or expanded dramatically in the vacuum...

Fluid dynamics are tricky. :) Let us know how it comes out!

With how many times I have restarted this filter, I am very aware of how it burbs itself! Lol!!

That seems to have fixed the problem. How interesting that just a prefilter would do all that. Thanks for the help! I'm just glad it was something simple and not a problem with the filter itself.
