The vinyl hose you are using isn't re-enforced? The reason I am asking is the bend it makes over the tank would likely cause as much GPH loss as a 90 degree sweeping 3/4" elbows. I haven't tested GPH with the spray bar but I doubt it is much less than with that dual nozzle that comes with the filter. I was looking for better spread and stronger current but keep in mind I have mine running on a smaller tank. I know the current with the spray bar versus the nozzle is so much better it really shows what this filter is capable of doing. I think also what makes the spray bar more effective as far as current is the pressure it creates like putting your finger over a water hose tip. So I imagine that would sacrifice GPH a bit but probably only marginally. I would be interested to either run a GPH test on this myself or if someone else already has I would be interested in seeing the numbers. Cool stuff.

This is what I was thinking.. at least for the intake line where the is suction/vacuum:

Sorry!!! I can never remember which forums are the ones where theres a ton a fans that are die hard YEAH!!!!FX5 Is the UBER Filter!!!! when in truth it has many issues, havn't you been reading the post of this forum lately or do I read another lanuage? Why do you not see all these posts that are asking about 2262 problems or Rena problems but you see a FX5 issue on this forum almost daily. I was trying above to nicely say that people like Razor and others who have made all these improvements should get credit. If I was with Hagen I'd be looking to fix a filter that seems to have many design flaws just as it is or do I need to stuff some duct tape in one of the trays to stop the massive bypass. I'm sorry I am the first to say I'm at fault and I don't like to be rude, but at the same time I call a spade a spade and don't pretend it's perfect with no issues when there are many!!!! I own two FX5 until I can afford the Eheims to replace them. And no even the Eheims are not perfect.

No I have been reading, been reading for alot longer then youve been around here. Lately the majority of the FX5 threads have been started by you. So the issues in this thread are a prefilter that wasn't serviced properly and someone who decided they wanted a spraybar. So why would hagan redesign for either of these. There are thousands of owners of the FX5 that have no issues whatsoever, yes there are those that are problems as with any product and then there are those that screw up because of user error. When you have multiple problems with multiple filters most likely your are the cause of the problem.

All im going to say to that is you need to search again with the FX5 I've maybe done three or four since I've been a member of this forum.....so search again. Heck even the forum ag chimed in lately and said to stay away from the FX5 because he was sick of reading about the issues dominating this part of the forum I've been using aquariums and filters since somewhere around 1968 or 69 I'll bet you where not born or barely. So lets shall we say agree to disagree and leave it at that. The post I made was not intended as a insult it was intended as a complement to a few users who have come up with ingenus ideas not to start a pis???? match with anyone. You took a well meaning post and turned it into a insult is the bottom line. Now with respect to the thread owner and other members I'm sorry if you have chatted with me in the past you know I don't hold much back and it was not my intent to be rude.

Don't know, what is the reason for the prefilter? I run a prefilter on my 20g RCS tank, I clean it weekly. If I go longer the filter looses flow. My advice would be to clean the prefilter more often or eliminate it if it is not really needed.

my memory could be wrong, but I think the OP occasionally has fry- & perhaps in that tank.
I was just thinking in general, regarding flow & clogging...

F1 I know we have had our run ins but I just had to chime in again.....Sorry. You need to also search the postings again, I have started very few and most have been in responce to the FX5....Uber Filters Club. Be real and honest do a search on FX5 issues just for say three months and tell me the FX5 hasn't gotten the most post with regard to problems with the FX5. I try to never direct a thread or a post directly at someone without facts to back it up. And I know from our exchanges in the past your a smarter person than that. Just as you all get tired of me putting this filter down (I own two for now so as a owner that gives me the right) Many get tired of the Uber Club!! I mean look at this thread it's about fixing issues on the filter by modifying it after its been unpackaged to fix issues!!!

You know I could see how a prefilter on a FX5 could be a issue....allot of cleaning. On the flip side imagine how many fry that FX5 could suck up in no time?

Just my opinion but I would really try and stay away from having a filter like this or Eheim 2262 on a tank where saving fry is a priority. Even with a pre-filter the suction is going to be very strong.
